Going to Graber...

We're going blueberry picking with friends at Graber Farms, a local organic farm next Saturday. We'll let you know all about it!

Hi there. This may not be pertinent to your post about blueberry picking, but I found your site while searching for farmers markets in Fort Wayne and I just wanted to say hello.

My husband, dog, cat and I are moving to Fort Wayne from North Texas in a few very short weeks, and I am encouraged by my research about the town so far. I am happy to learn that we will have many more options to buy locally grown food than we have here, and that we won't have to drive too far to get it. You wouldn't believe how spread out things are in the Dallas area -- this place is the definition of suburban sprawl!

I know Fort Wayne is far from being a "green" community, but the driving distances to get from place to place is going to be much shorter than my current situation.

Could anyone out there share any information about the level of pedestrian activity there in Fort Wayne? Are there parts of the city that are walkable? Are drivers pedestrian-friendly? Are there parts of the city where a person could realistically expect to walk to the store/church/park/knitting store? Any advice would be great. Thanks so much!

I have no clue how I stumbled upon your blog, but am so glad I did. I, too, have a food related blog called midwestmunchies.blogspot.com and I'm going to link yours to mine!

Cheers

Jennifer,

I think the area in which you should look is the Northeast--generally now referred to as East State Village. You will find the heart of it along East State Street between Crescent and Randalia. I used to live in that area, and I loved it. Unfortunately had to move to find a bigger house for my family--we have five kids.

Anyway, it is quite realistic to be within walking distance of all those locations you mentioned, and you will find that it is a young, vibrant community/neighborhood.

Hope that helps...BTW, I too just stumbled onto this blog...go figure.
